Girls Inc. of Chattanooga

“Honoring strong, smart and bold women in Chattanooga,” was the often repeated phrase I heard Wednesday morning at the 8th Annual Awards Breakfast for Girls Inc. of Chattanooga.

I was privileged to photograph the event held at The Chattanoogan and I heard about Girls Inc. firsthand. The experience of meeting the amazing leadership of this organization and getting to know what they have done and are doing in our great city was very inspirational.

In my opinion, Chattanooga is the best city in the world. I feel this way for a lot of reasons. One of the things that makes this such a great place to live and raise a family is that it is such a generous, giving community. Another reason is that the moral, spiritual and social values of our community have strong foundations. One such foundation is Girls Inc.

This morning I heard ten young women introduce women who have inspired and encouraged them. The honorees were chosen by the girls themselves and, as one lady said, it was especially meaningful to receive the award because it was from “women honoring women.”

Here is a picture of the honorees and their nominees. Congratulations to all and thank you for your service to our community.

Valentine Card for Liz Power

The author of this blogpost is Terry. This is my story and I’m sticking with it.

On February 16, 1979 I proposed to the lovely Liz. At that time I called her Elizabeth. At other times I called her Liz. Most of the time now I call her Power and she calls me Power. It was on February 21, 1979 she said, “yes.” Definitely another story as to why it took her so long to agree to marry me.

Apparently I was worried she would change her mind so I pushed for a short engagement. We were married June 1, 1979 at Philips Chapel on the campus of Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Four kids, ten grandkids and one slightly wacky cocker-spaniel named Babycakes XVI and we journey onward. Thank you, God, for blessing me with the amazing Liz Power.

Shonnie and Raymond recently celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary. I was thrilled to photograph them first at the Old Courthouse in Chattanooga and then at the Walnut Street Bridge. I got to thinking that this is an outstanding way to celebrate marriage. Every 10 years have a photo session! Anyway, we had a great time meeting them and we wish for them many more years of happiness.

My sister Lynne is one of the most generous, giving, and caring persons I know. I can’t even begin to tell you how much she has blessed me, encouraged me, and supported me. Her loving and giving attitude extends beyond our family and, as her friends will attest, blesses countless others.

On a recent Sunday afternoon, we once again witnessed her gracious hospitality when she hosted a baby shower for Mother’s friend, Celia, and her son’s family. We were on hand to help wherever we could, which included some photos. I thought it would be fun to post on the blog so I hope you all will enjoy.
