Most of my posts begin with the statement, “I love to photograph…” and then I fill in the blank. I love to photograph weddings. I love to photograph families. I love to photograph children. Okay, you get the point. I love to photograph. I love to photograph engaged couples. And on this occasion, I loved photographing Amy’s son, AJ, who is a dynamite, handsome boy! He was part of this active session. I say this because we were at the Walnut Street Bridge along with the entire population of Chattanooga. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people downtown at one time…ever.

Anyway, we managed to find some spots sans people and had a great time together. I especially liked the faux dance in the middle of Walnut Street. There were some very curious on-lookers. Amy and Chris were awesome, as was AJ, and I think you’ll smile with me when you see the slideshow and some of my favorites.

Kathleen and Ryan are awesome. They are both very gracious and easy to talk to which made us feel welcome. Besides, I think you’ll sense from looking at the slideshow and some of our favorite pictures that they both like to have fun. We definitely enjoyed the experience of being with them, laughing and just getting to know them. I really loved doing their engagement pictures.

Kristin Goodin & Nathan Eaton – Engagement Session – October 30, 2011

I loved hearing how Kristin and Nathan met. After their initial meeting, several years went by before they met again, this time they were working at the same place! Nathan realized that he knew Kristin and eventually asked for a date. On one memorable hike up Mt. LeConte, and after lots of dates, he proposed to Kristin.

This is an amazing couple and a true delight to know. We are very excited to be their photographers.

The wedding is planned for May 2012 at The Grandview, an amazing mountain-top venue.

Many years from now, when Nicole and Tom look at these photos, they probably won’t remember how hot it was on August 11, 2011. It was very hot, indeed, and humid. (An apt description of Chattanooga and the rest of the South this year.)

Anyway, we loved getting to know Nicole and Tom and to hear their story of how they met and how Tom proposed. That is always special.

Nicole and Tom are planning and October wedding and I know everyone is hoping for a crisp, clear, blue-sky, moderate temperature sort of day.

We are so excited for Tracie and Matt. What a great couple.

We are on our way out of town, but I wanted to post this before we left. Thank you, Tracie and Matt for a really fun time. I really love the slideshow.

Applause following our announcement that Luke Owen Power, our 9th grandchild was just born. We were on the photo session with Tracie and Matt when our son, John, called.

Ya’ll look GOOD.

Karolin and Martin, besides being very forgiving, are super fun to be with. We had a blast getting to know them and getting to do their engagement pictures. I noticed right away that they were very comfortable in front of the camera and I think they really enjoyed the experience. Their wedding is scheduled for this September at the Grandview.

Would you agree that meeting someone at church is a good thing? Well, for Dina and Robby, a wonderful, young couple from our church, Red Bank Baptist, that is where they met. A few days later Robby asked her for a date and then within a year he proposed.

We have known Robby’s family for several years, but this was our first time to really talk with Robby. He is friendly and gracious as is his fiancee, Dina, and we had a great time getting to know them.

Three things impressed me about Goldie and James. First, their togetherness and then their gentleness and kindness. Since the first time I met them, I have noticed how much they are aware of one another and how sensitive to each other’s thoughts, feelings and words. I suppose some would say it is because they are in love and I would agree but I would add they really have some special connecting. Which leads me to the other two things I have felt and that is their gentle and kind nature. I know these qualities will serve them well and I wish them the very best.

What an awesome privilege it is for me to photograph weddings. I don’t think I will ever grow tired of meeting young couples, getting to know them and then being part of one of the biggest day of their lives. I don’t think I can ever be thankful enough.

Back in January, Katie and Josh asked me to photograph their wedding scheduled for July 23rd at the Grandview. So the next thing on the list was to do their engagement pictures.

We met at the Walnut Street Bridge and, after a few minutes of getting to know one another, began the session. We found out right away that Katie and Josh were comfortable in front of the camera and seemed to enjoy the whole experience. They are a sweet couple and they made it easy for us to interact with them and get some great pictures. I absolutely loved the red rose. Very romantic!

Shauna and Zac have been patiently waiting to view their engagement session. For the past fifteen days we have been either out of the office and without electricity. But, after producing the slideshow (which you can view by clicking the arrow), I think they will be pleased with everything and all will be forgiven.

They were fun to get to know and I loved how much they enjoyed the experience. In less than a month they will have their wedding so I want to wish them the very best life has to offer!

Ashley and Jeremiah are the featured couple in today’s post. Terry and I really enjoyed getting to spend some quality time with them. Not only does this give us the opportunity to learn more of their story but it gives them a chance to get to know us.

Ashley is studying veterinary medicine which means Jeremiah is totally involved in the wedding planning. Their date is just a few weeks away but it sounded like all of the plans were coming together nicely. I think they had a good time with us and said they were glad they decided to go ahead with the engagement session. We are too! I hope everyone will take the time to check out the slideshow and to enjoy the pictures.

I love meeting the fiancee for the first time. More often than not, our initial consultation about photographing a wedding is with the bride. When we do get to meet the groom, it is usually at the engagement session which is a good thing. Not only do we get to know him but we experience what it is like for him to be in a lot of pictures.

Right away, we learned that Christian likes casual, fun and spontaneous pictures. In fact, we learned that Elizabeth and Christian like to have a lot of fun which fits with my personality. You all know I’m a cut-up, right? Anyway, we did the session along the Tennessee River where, at one of the stopping points, are some amazing playgrounds. Fun, for sure.

Congratulations, Elizabeth and Christian. We hope we didn’t bombard you with too many questions. God Bless!

Laughter is such an infectious response. We all know the phrase, “laugh and the world laughs with you…” I love to laugh and it is difficult for me to be too serious. So, when we got together with Emily and Ronny for their engagement session, I noticed immediately that Ronny and Emily loved to laugh. As we guided them through the engagement session, Ronny often brought out Emily’s compelling laughter. What fun!

First of all, I would like to say how excited we are to photograph Audrey and Jared’s wedding. The happy event is in January 2011 and I loved hearing how they met.

A caring friend to Audrey and a loving cousin to Jared encouraged them to meet. After some initial hesitancy, Audrey decided, sure, “why not?” The result? Well, check out their engagement session. They are so fun and what a great time we had ending with the best hot chocolate in town (as per the sign on the door).

I am always excited to photograph engaged couples. One reason is because they (the couple) always seem to have a great time. They laugh, and hold hands; they kiss and hug. Often, in between shots, they will tell their stories of how they met and how the proposal happened. I just love it. Another reason, is that we get to begin a friendship which hopefully will last a long, long time.

Justin and Shirley are as nice a couple as you can imagine. Kind, gracious and loving are a few of the adjectives that come to mind. I am really happy for them and can’t wait to photograph the wedding. I hope you all will take some time to look at the slideshow.

We learned a lot about rock climbing with the adventurous Heather and Jon. Seems these two met when Heather signed up for a class and Jon was the teacher. It wasn’t long until they were spending a lot of time together and now they’re planning on May wedding.

We took advantage of a beautiful, fall morning and drove up Montlake Mountain for some amazing scenery.

Throughout the year our fair city hosts an amazing array of festivals and events. The RiverRocks Festival is one of those and it was just about over. A dozen or so artisans, food vendors and craftsmen were setting up their booths on the bridge as an assortment of rowers cruised the river. The sun was shining brightly in a clear blue sky. The temperature was a perfect 78 degrees and we were there to meet and photograph one precious couple.

We really enjoyed the morning getting to know Laura Beth and Jake. This is one of the many reasons we love doing engagement pictures. We get to meet really cool people, hear how they met, how their proposal happened, and how the plans for the wedding are coming along. And we get to take pictures. We really love what we do.

There is a fun little ice cream and coffee shop on the Southside of the bridge so we started there. Laura Beth and Jake were so natural in front of the camera, which always makes our job fun and easy!

Samantha “Sam” Ragon & Josh Kapellusch, Engagement Session by Liz Power Photography

I love Sam and Josh’s story. Sam’s dad, during one of his tours of duty in Germany, took his family with him. Sam decided to further her education by taking some college classes at the Air Force base. Josh was in the Air Force and decided to take some classes and that’s how they met. We thought that was very Providential and were amazed at how God works.

So, with the wedding coming up real soon, we met for some engagement pictures.

The Old Courthouse is a great place for pictures. I love the sun flares.

Across the street is the remnants of an old Methodist Church. The architecture is amazing.

I love Sam’s eyes. Beautiful.

We decided to head downtown to the Chattanooga Pier overlooking the Tennessee River. I couldn’t help myself seeing how the clouds were providing such a spectacular backdrop to the Tennessee Aquarium.

Josh will be continuing his education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. We are excited for them and looking forward to the wedding. Congratulations, Sam and Josh!
